Mom Heart Moments #356
He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power.
BALANCE IS OVERRATED.
One day a few years ago, I was zipping along in the car to Kohl’s to look for jeans and a couple of things Joy needed, keeping in mind a meeting I had to drive her to in an hour. I also needed to pick up medication for the sinus infection I had developed, make it to an appointment we had to pray with friends at five, then pick up Joy from her meeting and head to Walmart for the things she would need while I was on a trip. Sarah and Joy and I had a cooking class at seven, we had plans to meet out-of-town friends at their hotel at nine, and then I would finish packing. Finally, I would leave for the airport with Clay and Sarah at 7:30 the next morning!
A friend said to me once, “The pendulum on a clock is only in balance at one point, as it constantly swings back and forth between the two sides.” I think I would have been so much more content and joyful if I had known at the beginning that life for me would not be “balanced.” It could still be meaningful if I would just accept the limitations of my day, my season, each of my children, my marriage, and my finances.
I don’t think Scripture promises balance. Jesus’ life did not always appear to be balanced. He had many days of people chasing after Him, and someone was always criticizing Him as He spent time feeding thousands and healing lepers and forgiving prostitutes and holding children and training His disciples. But we also know that Jesus frequently withdrew from the demands of life to rest and be in God’s presence, which was essential for Him to be able to do God’s will. If we, too, can see our busy days as part of the puzzle that brings about God’s will, we can be content and joyful and enjoy moments of rest even on our busiest days.
When you are weary or in a particularly busy season that seems out of balance, how can you find strength from God to keep going?
