Mother’s Day - Prayers for Every Occasion

LOVING GOD, when you sent your only Son to live among us as God in the flesh, you chose Mary’s womb to be Jesus’ first dwelling place. What an amazing plan, Father, and what an incredible way to elevate the role of motherhood. Though our yearly celebration of Mother’s Day isn’t something you instituted, you alone formed all the children that grew inside every mother who’s ever lived. Which would include each of us and our mothers!

None of us have had perfect mothers, nor can any woman be a perfect mother. Yet you have asked all of us to honor our mothers. May we honor them with kindness and treat them with respect. Whether our mothers are close, far away, or just a memory, please help us to remember the varied ways they have contributed to our lives. As we send a card, make a phone call, extend an invitation, or pause to remember them, help us do it with a grateful spirit.

Some of us will celebrate Mother’s Day as a child, some of us will celebrate as mothers, and some of us will celebrate as both. However we spend this special day, Father, may we realize that in honoring our mothers, we are also honoring you.
