True Success - The One Year Father-Daughter Devotions

True Success

If you were going to call your life a success twenty years from now, what would it look like? Would you be living in a big house? Drive a fancy car? Be married to a cute guy? Have a couple of little kids of your own? Be the first female president of the United States? All of those things certainly seem to reflect success.

Having a heart after God may not immediately jump to mind. It certainly doesn’t rank too high on the world’s success meter. But to God there’s nothing more important. When you know God’s commands and follow his ways, you’ll be a success. First Kings 2:3 confirms that fact: “Observe the requirements of the LORD your God, and follow all his ways. Keep the decrees, commands, regulations, and laws written in the Law of Moses so that you will be successful in all you do and wherever you go.”

That’s a pretty big promise. Do you think it’s true? Since God never lies—in fact, he can’t lie—you know that you can trust it. So to be a success, you must know God more closely and focus more on following him. Earthly success fades and is forgotten. True success is found only by serving God and seeking his will for your life.

Daddy-Daughter Time

Write down as many of God’s commands as you can think of together:

  • ________________________________________________________
  • ________________________________________________________
  • ________________________________________________________
  • ________________________________________________________
  • ________________________________________________________
  • ________________________________________________________

What do you notice about the things in your list? Do you see any patterns or similarities?

God wants us to put him first, act unselfishly, show love, help the less fortunate, think of others, respect authority, and watch what we say. When we do those things with a heart for serving him and telling the world his Good News, we’ll always be a success.

What’s The Word?

Observe the requirements of the LORD your God, and follow all his ways. Keep the decrees, commands, regulations, and laws written in the Law of Moses so that you will be successful in all you do and wherever you go.   1 Kings 2:3
