On Mission In Friendship

Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.

Jasmine and her friend Lizzie wanted to raise money for people in need, and they recruited their brothers to help as well. They found a local program that discreetly gave kids a bag of food for the weekend if they otherwise might not have anything to eat while not at school. But what could the two friends and their siblings do to support the program?

Their parents were having a book booth at a local women’s conference. “Maybe we could make magnets to raise money for the food program,” Jasmine suggested. “We could sell them at our moms’ book booth!”

“That’s a great idea!” Lizzie agreed.

The week of the conference, they all got together one night to make posters explaining what they were raising money for, who it would benefit, and why it was important. They also discussed how they would talk about it at the conference and prepared answers ahead of time.

On the day of the conference, the kids arrived with the magnets, excited and a bit nervous to share at the booth. But it wasn’t too long before they realized that talking about their project was actually pretty fun. They spent the next two days meeting new people and having conversations about helping others in their community. It felt good to share the experience with friends. Jasmine said, “I probably wouldn’t have been as confident alone, but having a friend helped me not be so shy.”

When we do things together with friends, we gain boldness we might not have all alone. The kids felt confident because they worked as a group, and in turn, they were an example to the women who came to the conference. They demonstrated what it means to live out what you believe by showing compassion and taking care of the needs of someone else. Don’t ever let your age limit you! If you have a passion to help or serve other people, don’t be afraid to do it and invite your friends to join you.
