Asking For Forgiveness

Asking for Forgiveness

Often we look at our wounds and think only of what others have done to us. While healing our wounds requires forgiving others, the focus should begin with our own need for forgiveness.

This may not feel just, but it is practical. You’ll never find healing while waiting for others to come to you. You can’t control what people do; you can only control yourself. So you need to first address how you’ve contributed to your own brokenness and the role you’ve played in your broken relationships.

This starts with asking God for forgiveness. He’s your most important relationship that needs healing, and when you find restoration with Him, you usually also restore yourself.

You’ll be humbled by this process, but in it you’ll find the motivation and the ability to ask for forgiveness from others, as well as start learning how to offer forgiveness.

“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.” —Matthew 6:14
