Justice and Mercy

Once you’ve begun seeking forgiveness from God and others, it will be easier to start offering forgiveness. But there will still be the exceptions. Some wounds are too deep, some hurts too horrific. We want justice for what has been done to us.

But consider this: justice has been served, but through a story twist that Hollywood could never conceive, God’s innocent Son was fatally wounded in payment for every hurt that has been inflicted upon you, for every hurt you’ve caused yourself.

God is able to look beyond what we all deserve because the ultimate justice was inflicted against the only person who deserved none. In one moment in time, justice was served, and forgiveness and mercy became available to all who would receive it.

Surrender your human sense of justice to that supernatural act of mercy, and you’ll find an ability to forgive others that could only come from above.

All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. —Romans 3:23–24
