It Is to Your Advantage

Some people won’t be able to stomach these words on humility, not because they’re too proud but because they’ve been so beaten down by others that the thought of deliberately lowering themselves further makes no sense at all. Won’t they make themselves vulnerable to be taken advantage of again?

You may not like the answer: yes and no. Yes, if you seek humility, if you serve others without expecting payment or recognition, you may be taken advantage of.

But also, no. Even if you are taken advantage of, it is ultimately to your advantage: you’ll be elevated by a life of purpose. In choosing a lifestyle of lowering yourself for the sake of others, you’ll find freedom from the power of hurt and abuse inflicted on you without your permission.

If you’ve been taken advantage of in the past, choose the path of humility. In this, you can rise again.
