The theater goes dark. The twenty minutes of previews are finally over. The world around you changes as you are transported into an entirely different realm.
You are a bird in flight soaring over mountains. You are frozen by the sorrow of a character you’ve grown to love in a matter of minutes. You double over in belly laughter over comedic antics you’d never try at home. You’re stirred by the broken love of a couple trying to find their way.
Movies are perhaps the closest we can get in art to learning by example. They combine what’s best in most other art forms—words, music, and visuals—to show us pictures that move. They transport our mind and emotions outside the mundane and the ordinary into territory we might just explore for ourselves one day.
The best movies can be a model for living—or at least entertaining—the life that matters.
Where I was born and where and how I have lived is unimportant. It is what I have done with where I have been that should be of interest. —Dwight L. Moody
