The average person has never attended an opera, but here’s why you should try it at least once. At first, it may feel frustrating. Most operas are sung in other languages, so you may find yourself focusing on the subtitles to make sense of the story.

But then you learn something: you can better follow the story by simply immersing yourself in the music. It’s in the music where you’ll best encounter the drama playing out before you.

Music engages the parts of your soul for which there are no words. Where books infuse the mind, music ignites the emotions. If not opera, it could be a catchy pop song or a stirring rendition of the national anthem.

Music reminds us that our story isn’t just meant to be seen, but heard. And not just heard, but felt. Music reminds us that the life that matters is meant to be felt as much as understood.
