The Purpose of Relationship

Sometimes we wish everyone would just go away.

The kids assume we’re some bellhop there to serve their every need. Husbands or wives make constant demands on our time. Friends chat away on the phone, not understanding the pressures we’re under.

But then we remember that we’ve been charged with caring for and protecting another human being. Who are we to be honored with such a responsibility? Sure, our spouse can be selfish, but so can we. Would we really be the person we are without him or her? And where would we be without friends who care enough to call and connect?

Here’s a news bulletin: life can be difficult, and life has little meaning without each other. Without relationships, life will just be hard, and where’s the joy in that?

Our relationships must start and end with God, the pure source of all faithfulness, intimacy, and promise. It’s in relationship with Him where relationship finds its truest purpose.
