Jesus—our Greatest Delight - A Life of Joy: 7-Day Guide to Lasting Delight
Jesus—Our Greatest Delight
“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” (John 15:11, ESV)
Consider the moments in life that have brought you the greatest joy. Maybe it was holding your child for the first time, laughing uncontrollably with a close friend, or experiencing a breathtaking sunset that left you in awe. These moments are undoubtedly gifts from God, but they are only a glimpse of the greater joy found in Jesus Himself.
In John 15, Jesus speaks to His disciples about remaining in Him—the true Source of life and joy. He explains that just as a branch cannot bear fruit unless it remains connected to the vine, we cannot experience true joy unless we are connected to Him. Then, in verse 11, He gives us a powerful promise:
“These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.”
Jesus isn’t just offering temporary happiness—He is offering us complete, lasting, soul-deep joy. The kind that sustains through every season of life.
Maybe you’ve spent years searching for fulfillment in the wrong places. Maybe life has left you weary, and joy feels distant. Jesus offers you something deeper than fleeting happiness—He offers Himself.
As we wrap up our time together exploring the beautiful reality of the call to delight, consider these three lessons from Jesus’ teaching on joy:
- True joy comes from abiding in Christ. The world teaches that joy comes from success, relationships, or circumstances. But Jesus teaches real, abundant joy comes from staying connected to Him.
- Joy isn’t found in ease. It’s found in knowing we belong to Him. Jesus didn’t promise a pain-free life, but He did promise that His joy would be in us. Even in trials, we can rejoice because we are held by the One who never changes.
- Jesus is our greatest delight! Sometimes we approach faith like a checklist—prayer, Bible reading, church attendance. But Jesus invites us into a relationship, not a routine. The more we delight in Him, the more we realize nothing else compares.
Pray:
Jesus, You are my greatest delight. I confess that I often seek joy in things that don’t last, but I know that only You can fully satisfy my heart. Teach me to abide in You—to obey the living Word of God—daily, to find joy in Your presence, and to rest in the love You have for me. Help me to live a life that overflows with the joy You have promised. Thank You for the gift of true and lasting joy. In Your name, amen.
