The Early Church—finding Delight In Fellowship - A Life of Joy: 7-Day Guide to Lasting Delight
The Early Church—Finding Delight in Fellowship
“Day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” (Acts 2:46-47, ESV)
Think about a time when you felt truly connected to others—a deep conversation over coffee, a heartfelt prayer with a friend, or a gathering where you felt seen and known. God designed us for community, and when we live in biblical fellowship, we experience a joy that goes beyond surface-level connection.
The early church understood this well. After Jesus’ resurrection and ascension, His followers didn’t just believe in Him individually—they lived out their faith together. Acts 2 paints a picture of a community that was vibrant, generous, and full of joy.
They met together daily, shared meals, prayed, and supported one another. Their delight in God overflowed into their relationships. As a result, their numbers grew and their faith deepened.
The early church reminds us that delighting in God is not just personal—it’s shared.
Principles for the Heart:
Joy is multiplied in community.
- Christianity was never meant to be a solo journey. We grow in joy when we walk alongside others who love Jesus.
Genuine connection requires intentionality.
- The early believers didn’t just meet when it was convenient—they made community a daily priority.
- True fellowship goes beyond Sunday mornings; it’s built through intentional relationships and shared experiences.
God works through our relationships.
- Acts 2:47 tells us that because of the early believers’ unity, more people were drawn to Jesus. Their joy was contagious!
- When we embrace Christ-centered fellowship, we encourage, strengthen, and challenge one another to grow deeper in faith.
Ponder This:
- Do I intentionally cultivate Christ-centered friendships, or am I walking alone in my faith?
- What holds me back from engaging in a Christ-centered community?
- How has God used others to encourage or strengthen my faith?
- What is one step I can take this week to build stronger connections in my faith community?
Pray:
Father, thank You for creating us for community. I know I wasn’t meant to walk this journey alone. Help me to prioritize fellowship and surround myself with people who love and pursue You. Give me the courage to be vulnerable, the wisdom to encourage others, and the heart to invest in relationships that glorify You. May my joy in You overflow into the lives of those around me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
