Beautiful Word Devotional #122

“If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

Matthew 7:11

Think back to the Christmas when you received a longed-for gift. Perhaps in that moment, you understood that your parents had sacrificed joyfully to be able to give you what you wanted. Your smile and gratitude were worth their effort. Why? Because parents naturally want to give good gifts to their children.

God is the same way. He loves to give you good gifts. These aren’t under-the-Christmas-tree gifts. In fact, these gifts—things like patience, a reconciled relationship, a heart made whole after emotional trauma, unexpected provision, clear direction, his presence with you—are a million times better than anything even the best earthly parent could wrap up and put a bow on.

Almighty God is a good Father who longs to give you so much. Don’t hesitate to ask, believing that he hears you and that he will give you good gifts in his perfect timing.

Lord, I know you are the wise and perfect parent, and I thank you that you only give me what is good for me, amen.
