Beautiful Word Devotional #132
“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
Matthew 10:28
We tend to live in fear, particularly fear of death. But in this verse Jesus reminded us that ultimately the only One we should fear is God.
And when we spend our energy and time thinking about him, learning how to please him and choosing to worship him, suddenly our fears grow smaller. The bigger we make God, the tinier our fears about life in this fallen world become.
And this God who loves with an infinite love, loves you. Right where you are. In this moment. Furthermore, nothing you can do will ever separate you from his deep fatherly affection for you. May choosing to revere him become a delight. And as you worship him—and him alone—among the byproducts will be a life without fear of death.
Lord, when my fears feel big, remind me that you are big, that you are bigger! Show me your greatness afresh, amen.
