Beautiful Word Devotional #147

These three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13:13

To have faith is to believe that God is big enough to carry out his purposes in your life. To have hope is to believe that no matter what happens, your sovereign God is in complete control. And love is the most precious blessing that humans can both experience and share.

But even if others perceive you as a pillar of faith, if you don’t have love, the strength of your faith really doesn’t matter. Or if you hope like crazy but do so without loving people, hope has no impact. Love is the premier choice.

Jesus himself taught about the paramount position of love when he identified the two most important commandments: we are to love God and love others.

Look back over your life. When have you loved well? What have you done to demonstrate to God your love for him? In what ways have you sacrificially loved others? How well you love God and how well you love others will determine how much joy you experience on this earth.

Lord—Lord of love—help me to love you and love others today, amen.
