Beautiful Word Devotional #165
Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Psalm 51:12
This cry comes straight from David’s shattered heart. He was utterly broken after the prophet Nathan helped him recognize the magnitude of his sin, of his adultery with Bathsheba and murder of her husband, Uriah. Devastated by the enormity of his sin, David crawled toward the Lord, crying out for mercy and forgiveness.
The beauty of David’s life is that he remained a “man after God’s heart” despite this tragic foray into sin. He didn’t let his actions and their consequences prevent him from running to God. Unfortunately, many of us see our past sin as disqualifying us from receiving God’s grace. So we camp in the land of shame.
Whenever you do that, you’re believing a lie. God does want you back. He does love you. He sent his Son to die for you and forgive all your sins. So don’t let your sinful choices keep you from returning to God. You will definitely find grace and forgiveness and hope.
Lord, I never want to take my sin lightly, but I also don’t want it to keep me away from you, amen.
