Beautiful Word Devotional #167
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.
Psalm 68:5
Granted, not all of us are fatherless or have experienced widowhood, but we have all walked through heartache on this earth. Each of us has encountered mistreatment or loss or abandonment. We all know what it’s like to feel small or overlooked.
The psalmist reminds us of something important about God: he is a personal God. He tailors his interactions with his children based on our needs. To those without a father, he becomes a doting dad. To those who have lost husbands, God takes on the role of protector and defender.
Maybe you desperately need to know today that God loves you in a very personal way. Maybe you need him to be the best friend you lost, or the coach who moved away, or the stepparent who passed on to eternity. Whatever you need, God sits right now in his holy dwelling, ready and able to step in. He is a personal God. He longs to meet your very real needs today, and he is just a prayer away.
Lord, thank you that you are all that I need to make it through this day, amen.
