Beautiful Word Devotional #226

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.”

Jeremiah 1:5

Did you know that Jeremiah is sometimes called “the weeping prophet”? He said things to the nation of Israel on God’s behalf, things that made them angry. As a result, Jeremiah experienced heartache and isolation. He endured much pain at the hands of his own people, and he could have easily doubted God’s goodness because of it.

But maybe when his ministry got rough, Jeremiah thought back to these words God spoke when he called the prophet into service. First, God had known Jeremiah even before he formed the prophet in his mother’s womb. Second, God told Jeremiah that he had been set apart for a Jeremiah-shaped mission.

It’s the same for you. God knew you before you were formed in the womb, and he has a very special you-shaped mission for you to fulfill. Send your roots deep into those truths today.

Lord, thank you for making me and for choosing me to do the me-shaped work you have designed for me to do, amen.
