God is not a God of disorder but of peace.

1 Corinthians 14:33

The early church was in its formative stages, and often instruction was in order. Such was the case when Paul wrote to the Corinthian believers. When they met together to worship, Paul told them, they must share “a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation” (v. 26) in an orderly and peaceful manner that would effectively build up the church as well as reflect the order and peace of God. A time of worship was not to be chaotic, for such disarray would not accurately represent God or help people worship well.

Consider the value of order and peace during worship. Basically, we need worship to be about God, not about us. An orderly worship enables that to happen: we can focus on God so that he can change our hearts. We want to be different people after encountering God in worship, corporate or private, but always orderly.

Lord, thank you for the reminder that worship is to be all about you. Help that also to be true of my private worship times, amen.
