Then will the eyes of the blind be opened and the ears of the deaf unstopped.

Isaiah 35:5

In these words about what would happen when the Messiah came, the prophet Isaiah gave faithful Jews a hint of what was to come.

Enter Jesus. Soon after performing his first miracle of turning water into wine at the wedding in Cana, Jesus began to fulfill this part of Isaiah’s prophecy: he healed people who were born blind, he opened the ears of the deaf, he opened the mouths of the mute, and he raised people from the dead.

All these miracles were intended to be signs proving he was the long-awaited Messiah spoken about by the Old Testament prophets. As John the apostle noted in his gospel, though, “Jesus did many other things as well,” but the world would not have enough room for all the books it would take to record all Jesus did (see John 21:25).

Today, Jesus continues to act on behalf of his followers. His complete power and perfect love mean you can live with hope and peace.

Lord, thank you for doing miracles to show us your divine power and life-changing love, amen.
