Beautiful Word Devotional #235
This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
1 John 3:16
Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice when he laid down his life for us. Here’s another picture of an ultimate sacrifice. You are blind and deaf, standing on a train track and completely unaware of the train roaring toward you. A bystander sees you there, oblivious to the danger, and runs toward you to push you out of harm’s way, which she successfully does . . . only to lose her own life.
That’s what Jesus has done for you. Pushing you out of harm’s way, he took the full impact of the train on your behalf. What did John tell us to do in response? He encouraged us to love in the same sacrificial manner.
In short, when you inconvenience yourself for the sake of another, you act in a small way just like Jesus did.
Lord, open my eyes to the needs around me today. Make me willing to die to myself to help meet those needs, amen.
