Beautiful Word Devotional #258
Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4
Delight and desires. Two great words, right? What does it mean to “take delight in the Lord”? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, delighting means having “a strong feeling of happiness, great pleasure or satisfaction; something that makes you very happy.” Your relationship with God should be a source of great happiness and pleasure. If that’s not the case—if you feel distant from God or robotic in your relationship with him—perhaps it’s time to take a little retreat and give yourself the opportunity to recapture the joy and excitement of your initial love for Jesus.
When we make God our supreme focus and learn the art of delighting in him, he has easy access to our hearts. As he works there to make us more like Jesus, he conforms the desires of our hearts to his desires for us. Then, when he gives you the desires of your heart, he is actually giving you what he desires for you.
Lord, I choose to delight in you today, looking forward to your work in my heart to make me more like Jesus, amen.
