Beautiful Word Devotional #259

“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

Mark 6:31

Jesus said these kind words to the disciples who must have been worn out from all their journeying. He invited them into a place of solitude and quiet after they all had been pressed into crowds, involved in countless conversations, and surrounded by loud voices. And Jesus wasn’t asking them to do something that he hadn’t already demonstrated. Many times the disciples had seen Jesus pull away to spend time alone with his Father.

This kind of quiet, rest, and prayer that Jesus modeled is essential for the Christ follower. Without it, we end up rushing and stressed out, of no use to anyone.

What prevents you from pulling away to be alone with God today? Is he calling you away to a quiet place because you need to be refreshed by rest? Instead of pushing against the invitation, accept it and welcome the respite. We finite human beings need the kindness and refreshment that our infinite God provides.

Lord, I’m tired. So, so tired. Thank you for inviting me to rest and quietness in your presence, amen.
