Beautiful Word Devotional #268
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
John 14:27
What beautiful words Jesus spoke over his disciples! He knew he would soon die on the cross, and he wanted the disciples to choose peace.
These words, while deeply encouraging, are something of a command. Jesus said he’ll give us amazing peace. But in order to get the most out of that peace, let’s follow Jesus’ instructions here.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled.” Life events can trouble us. When we notice the unsettledness, may we turn to Jesus, remember his sovereignty, and receive his peace.
“Do not be afraid.” Fear grips many of us for numerous legitimate reasons. May we go to Jesus, let go of fear, and grab hold of all that Jesus has for us—especially his peace.
What a comfort to know Jesus cares enough for us to graciously, generously give us peace.
Lord, I don’t want a troubled heart, and I choose not to give in to fear. May I instead receive your peace today, amen.
