But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.

Joshua 24:15

Hear Joshua’s bold pronouncement! A man of God, he knew whom he would serve! He also knew that many people in the nation of Israel were prone to turn away from God and that they needed to make a commitment to the one true God. He called them to throw away idols and turn away from pagan rituals. And in their presence, as their leader, he proclaimed his choice to follow the Lord.

We face that same choice in a world that is full of distractions. We can find ourselves serving money, leisure, fame, success, people, or our job—and neglecting to make our commitment to God our top priority. So you have a decision to make. Like Joshua, you can declare your choice to—in the power of the Holy Spirit—serve God with your whole heart. Will you?

Lord, I choose right now to serve you and you alone. Free me from the distractions and keep me focused on and devoted to you, amen.
