Faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

Romans 10:17

What is God like? A lot of big words can describe him: omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent, immutable, and sovereign, for instance. Each of those is absolutely true—and pretty hard to completely get our minds around.

There’s another way we can know what God is like, and that’s by getting to know Jesus. In the written Word—the Bible—we can read about what God is like, but in the living Word—in Jesus—we can see what God really is like. The essence of God is love, and Jesus is the exact representation of love in human form.

Think about the love you see in how Jesus lived. Healing the blind. Raising the dead. Feeding the hungry. Touching the leper. Forgiving the prostitute. Respecting women. Praying for his disciples. And, yes, dying on the cross. These actions speak loudly of God’s love, and his acts of love continue today. Sit quietly and listen for him to speak. When he does, he speaks love over you.

Lord, I want to walk in your love, share your love with others, and love you with all that I am, amen.
