Beautiful Word Devotional #28

Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

Deuteronomy 8:3

When Jesus was being tempted by Satan in the wilderness, Jesus said these words when the enemy suggested he turn the stones into bread. Imagine not eating for forty days! This mention of making your own loaves of bread out of rocks would be entirely tempting.

Although he was hungry, Jesus found truth in God’s Word that helped him stand strong against the evil one. Jesus quoted Moses, who, in Deuteronomy, was instructing the nation of Israel how to live in in a way that would honor and please the Lord. Remember, God had brought the people of Israel through the Red Sea on dry land. He had sustained them in the wilderness with water and manna. Moses wanted the people to keep their eyes and hearts set on the Provider, not on the provisions.

More intensely than your physical hunger screams to be satisfied, your heart longs to be filled by God. Only he can nurture you and sustain you in this journey called life.

Lord, I want to feast on your words today and always, amen.
