Beautiful Word Devotional #292
The LORD detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.
Proverbs 16:5
Look around. The world rewards the proud, doesn’t it? People who believe they can do anything, who boast about their abilities, and who never admit fault often “make it” in the world. They climb corporate ladders, scale the heights of sports achievement, and scrap their way to fame.
Of course, not all successful and famous people are proud, nor are humble people immune to pride. Insidious pride can affect us all. When we declare, “I can live my life in my own strength. I don’t need God,” that’s pride. When we turn our backs on God and go our own ways, that’s pride. And God “detests all the proud of heart.”
But God is pleased and honored by those who humbly accept his leadership and receive his strength into their lives. So choose each day—and several times throughout each day—to humble yourself and depend solely on him.
Lord, I don’t want to be prideful and full of myself. I want to be humble and full of you, amen.
