Beautiful Word Devotional #297

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers.

Psalm 1:1

The psalmist warned us: don’t walk, stand, or sit with the wrong people.

We are not to walk the way the wicked walk. We are not to conform to the world’s selfish ways and upside-down values. We’re not to chase after success at the expense of others. Instead, we are to walk the path of righteousness God has established for his people.

We are not to stand in the road where sinners walk. We are not to hang out with people who live in rebellion against God. If we do, our love for him can slip as we gradually move from loving him to wanting to impress others.

We are not to sit with people who mock the Lord, his church, and our faith. Mocking of public figures is well accepted in our culture, and social media offers opportunities for judgment, self-righteousness, and, yes, mocking.

In contrast to these three behaviors, may our lives reflect our walk with Jesus.

Lord, I want to walk in your footsteps, stand in your pathway, and sit with you, amen.
