Beautiful Word Devotional #303
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Psalm 51:10
David cried out to God in desperation. The king had committed the sin of adultery and tried to cover it up with the sin of murder. Only after God sent Nathan the prophet to confront him did David more fully realize the magnitude of his sin and pray the words of today’s verse.
David’s prayer is a good model for us when we go before God to confess the ways we have sinned and willfully gone our own way. First, we ask God to scrub our hearts clean, for we cannot clean ourselves. Only God can forgive our sins. Only God can make us clean.
In the aftermath of our sin, we are well aware of our weakness and the ease with which we can fall into sin. That’s why it’s important to ask that God give us a steadfast spirit, a desire to faithfully follow him no matter what.
So, no matter how far you’ve strayed, turn to God for forgiveness and cleansing. He will give you a fresh start.
Lord, I do desire a clean heart and a steadfast spirit. Please bless me with both, amen.
