Beautiful Word Devotional #304
What does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8
Obedience to these three requirements means putting love into action.
To act justly may be inconvenient. To show mercy may mean helping those who can’t repay you. To walk humbly with God is to do what he calls us to do—to bow before him, listen to his voice, and surrender our wills to his. Love in action can mean counseling unwed moms, watching a single parent’s children for a weekend, or visiting lonely people in assisted-living facilities.
And you can love this way because the One who commands is—according to today’s Scripture—“your God.” As your Creator, he knows what you are able to do. As your heavenly Father, he wants you to do as he asks. As your sovereign King, he will enable you to obey. And in this case, your God will help you love.
Lord, thank you for loving me well and helping me love others well, amen.
