Beautiful Word Devotional #31

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

Psalm 46:10

We are rushers. We run here and there, too rarely enjoying each sacred moment. One reason we run is our lack of trust. We don’t necessarily believe God knows what he is doing, so we pick up the slack and live as if everything depended upon us.

This psalm reminds us that all that hurried rushing ends in . . . nothing. Whether you run yourself ragged or sit quietly in a chair, God will ultimately be exalted all over the earth. His purposes will always prevail.

The psalmist must have known that we are inclined to hurry, and he gives us the key to slowing down: know God. When we seek to know God and his ways, we suddenly realize that he is God, and we are not.

God loves you whether you tend to run or relax. Take a moment right now to stop, to listen, to be present in the moment.

Lord, I am grateful you carry out your purposes all around the world. Help me to rest in your sovereign goodness today, amen.
