Beautiful Word Devotional #32

“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

Ezekiel 36:26

What do you see as the most interesting word in this verse? I think the word I is, hands down, the most interesting. I find it fascinating that God is the One—the “I”—who will give us a brand-new heart and infuse a brand-new spirit. He takes away our stony hearts and gives us a heart that feels, prays, sympathizes, worships, and so much more.

Now consider the fact that it is God who does all the good work in your life. He orchestrated your renewal by sending his Son to die for you on the cross. And, because of him, your heart is made brand-new, alive, and fresh.

Guard and protect the heart that God has given you. Be quick to forgive. Run from bitterness. Work toward reconciliation. Love lavishly. This is your daily response to a God who made your heart and your spirit brand-new.

Lord, I thank you for giving me a new heart. Please help me protect it—and as I do so, may you be glorified, amen.
