Beautiful Word Devotional #314

He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.

Psalm 91:2

In Jesus, God came to earth to rescue us from our sin nature and the consequences of the sin we commit. He wants to eradicate our sin because he longs to have a relationship with us. He wants us to declare—like the psalmist—that he is “my God.” That possessive my reveals a relationship, trust, and intimacy. And this is available to you.

God is completely trustworthy and the best Friend you’ll ever have. He keeps his promises. He will never leave you. He isn’t put off by your struggles. He forgives sin, removing it as far from you as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). And he loves with unconditional love.

Furthermore, God wants to protect his people from harm. He offers his children an escape from worries, troubles, and strife, a place to rest, a refuge. And that refuge is at the same time a fortress where his children find safety and security.

Lord, my refuge, my fortress, my trustworthy God, I love you, amen.
