Beautiful Word Devotional #343
The message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
1 Corinthians 1:18
To the world, the cross is foolishness—but, Paul explained, this apparent foolishness was planned by the God whose “foolishness” trumps man’s greatest intelligence. God’s ways may indeed appear foolhardy and strange, but they are ultimately the ways of salvation, eternal life, contentment, peace, and countless other blessings.
Still, the cross looks far more like foolishness than power. It doesn’t make sense that a show of utter powerlessness and total defeat—a body hanging on a cross—actually set the stage for God’s ultimate victory over sin and death. Jesus’ resurrection ushered humanity into a relationship with God: this relationship that was once impossible because of sin was made possible by the sacrifice of sinless Jesus.
Jesus ransomed you from death row, and it cost him his life, which he allowed to be taken from him on the cross. Truly, the cross reveals the saving power of God.
Lord, some consider the cross sheer foolishness, but I know it as the means by which you graciously welcomed me into your eternal kingdom, amen.
