Beautiful Word Devotional #354
As God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.
Colossians 3:12
What we wear reflects who we are. And who we are is more about whose we are. Paul reminded us that we are chosen by God. For those of us who have felt like wallflowers in the dance of life, this is especially poignant news. The God of the universe has joyfully chosen you.
Not only that, but he calls you two very important things: “holy” and “dearly loved.” Holy is a heady word. But your holiness is assured not because of what you’ve done or not done, but because of what Jesus did on the cross. And that same act on the cross—his death that paid the price for your sins—enabled you to become his dearly loved child.
In light of that reality, God wants you to wear clothes in keeping with your identity. You who are made holy, who are loved wildly, will naturally wear “compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.” Those traits flow freely from who you now are.
Lord, thank you that I am made holy, that I’m dearly loved. Help me live in light of that today, amen.
