And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

What a beautiful promise from God’s Word! All our needs are met “according to the riches of his glory.” But what exactly does that mean? What are “the riches of his glory”?

To determine that, we have to look at doxa, the Greek word for glory. In this context, glory means “honor, renown, and splendor.” But it also means, in adjective form, “weighty, valuable, and worth much.” The greatest value in this universe is God. He is weighty, worthy of everything. He is priceless.

So, you may have physical needs, and God attends to them. But there’s so much more to the riches of God. Through the Holy Spirit, you have access to all of God, in the fullness of all his amazing attributes, in the fullness of his love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (see Galatians 5:22–23). He will gift you with his presence even as he meets all your needs.

Lord, thank you that from your richness, you so greatly enrich me, amen.
