Beautiful Word Devotional #41

Jesus came to [the eleven disciples] and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.”

Matthew 28:18

When asked what the first word of the Great Commission is, most people answer “Go”—as in “Go and make disciples of all nations” (v. 19). But the first word isn’t go; the first word is all. As Jesus commissioned us to share his love with a dying world, his first word was the all-encompassing word all.

And all authority in the world as well as in heaven was his. He is Creator of everything and therefore the genuine Authority over every single institution and government.

We gain a sweet perspective on our lives and even on the state of the world when we think about Jesus’ supremacy. No matter what you’re facing today, he has all the authority over the situations you’re concerned about. Jesus is King. He is Ruler over all. Rest in him and trust him to see you through all your problems.

Lord, thank you that you have all authority in heaven and on earth. So I will choose to entrust to you my stressful situation today, amen.
