Beautiful Word Devotional #42

He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5

Although Isaiah prophesied these verses hundreds of years before Jesus was born, they proved stunningly true. Jesus was speared (“pierced”) in his side during his crucifixion. He was flogged and beaten raw for the sake of our sin (“iniquities”). As Jesus hung on the cross (“wounds”), God poured out on his own Son his wrath against sin: the perfect Lamb was sacrificed, and divine justice was satisfied, providing for us the opportunity to have a relationship with our holy God (“healed”).

A beautiful thing about Jesus is that he truly understands what it means to walk this earth. He understands being wounded by the world. He is well acquainted with betrayal, rejection, lies, loneliness, and people’s anger and hatred. He understands what you experience. You can tell your Savior anything. And he will listen and understand.

Lord Jesus, thank you for dying on the cross for me so that my sins are forgiven. And thank you for living on this earth for another reason too: I know you understand what I go through! Amen.
