Beautiful Word Devotional #67

The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”

Genesis 3:12

We can spend our lives blaming other people for our own failures. But if someone else is always the problem, we don’t face our own failures and limitations. We don’t grow.

Back in the garden, Adam didn’t own up to his role in the original sin. Instead, he opted to point his finger at Eve. The fall of man inaugurated this blame game.

While it is true that others have hurt you, causing you tremendous pain and maybe even leading to some bad decisions on your part, we all have to stand before God alone. Even if the other person is 99 percent wrong and you are only 1 percent responsible, you will experience joy when you fess up to your part—when you confess to others and to God.

Lord, help me recognize my role, accept responsibility, apologize and/or ask forgiveness, and do my best to make the situation right. I want to avoid the blame game and instead know the joy and freedom of your design! Amen.
