Beautiful Word Devotional #81

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Matthew 7:13–14

It’s not easy to squeeze our way through a narrow opening. We do it to get into hidden places, or to discover something we’ve never seen before. Maybe we’ve inched our way through a cave in order to see a hidden chamber. What lies beyond the narrow opening compels us to move forward.

It’s the same with our faith in Jesus. Treasures and joys await those of us who follow Jesus, but the way to those things is quite narrow. Only when we allow ourselves to become smaller will we make our way through.

It’s far easier to take the wider path. But narrowing your shoulders and following Jesus to the new adventures he has for you is worth the squeezing. After all, that narrow road is the pathway to abundant life in Jesus and eternal life with him.

Lord, I want to choose the narrow path every day of my life. I know it is worth the squeezing, amen.
