Beautiful Word Devotional #87

Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.

Micah 7:8

God loves to be our light. He loves to pick us up when we fall down. He loves to comfort and defend us when he sees our enemies gloating. Why? There’s a simple clue hidden within this verse. In Hebrew, the word LORD is Yahweh, and it means “I am that I am.”

That name is significant: it means that God is the God of this moment. He existed before; he exists today; he will exist tomorrow. This truth should bring tremendous hope! Furthermore, Yahweh holds everyone’s stories in his mind and their lives in his hands. He discerns everything, knows every plot twist, and is deeply concerned with every human being on this earth.

So if you find yourself in the darkness today, your mood fallen into a pit of pain, remember that God is powerful enough to see you through.

Yahweh, thank you for being all-powerful yet concerned about everything in my life, amen.
