Beautiful Word Devotional #93
The LORD is near to all who call on him.
Psalm 145:18
When we go through difficult times, we might feel that God is miles away from us. We can feel isolated when we are suffering, and the more we walk the path of pain, the farther away God seems: Why doesn’t he intervene? Why doesn’t he answer prayer? Why do other people seem to have easy lives?
But this psalm reminds us of an important truth: God does come near when we invite him to. To call on him is to cry out, to nearly beg. We may be desperate for a sense of his presence. Throughout the Psalms, though, we see that God is near to people who are broken, but far from those who are stiff-necked and proud.
You may feel God is far away. But the truth is, he is as near as your breath, as close as your prayer to him. So call on him. He wants you to live in the awareness that he walks alongside you and hurts with you. Your heavenly Father truly is intimately interested in your life.
Lord, I want you to be part of my suffering. So I call on you, thirsty for your companionship, amen.
