Beautiful Word Devotional #96

To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

1 Peter 2:21

Maybe you’ve been to the beach, noticed a series of footprints, and tried to put your feet in them. If so, you understand the awkwardness of trying to step right where someone else has stepped.

Yet serving as God’s spokesman, Peter called us to walk the steps that Jesus walked. He didn’t journey through happy tulip fields. Instead, Jesus chose to suffer for our sake. His feet must’ve been torn up from all the walking he did to reach many, many people.

To follow in the steps of Jesus doesn’t mean walking to a literal wooden cross. It means living to serve and glorify God. One way to bring God glory is to simply pause in a given situation and ask yourself, What would Jesus do here? Would he linger when a friend is hurting? Would he give that last bit of money to a person in need? To follow in Jesus’ steps is to become more like him through the power of the Holy Spirit. .

Jesus, I want to walk in your footsteps. Help me. Use me, transform me, amen.
