For Praying His Name - Called to Pray
For Praying His Name DURING A VERY TOUGH SEASON, I sat in my car and a swarm of emotions hit me: disappointment, hopelessness, regret. They all came at once. With tears streaming down my face, I closed my eyes and slowly whispered, “Jesus.” Instantly, something came over me. It was like a morphine shot that subdued the pain. So I said it again, “Jesus.” And then again, “Jesus.” I don’t know how many times I called his name; but with that simple prayer, I felt indescribable comfort and relief. There’s power in the name of Jesus. His name, alone, is burden removing and hope restoring. Philippians 2 proclaims, “God made his name greater than every other name so that every knee will bow to the name of Jesus” (verses 9-10, NCV). That means hopelessness and pain must bow; regret and worry must bow; every single burden must bow. So what should you do when you feel lost and alone? In the words of Martha Munizzi’s song, “When you don’t know what else to pray . . . say the name.” Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved. Jesus is my constant prayer. Dear Lord, Your name is a strong tower. The righteous run to it and find safety. With the simple utterance of your name, no burden can stand. Chains of bondage are broken; and every aching sore is soothed. Jesus, I pray over my spirit, mind, and body. Jesus, I pray over every single area of my life. When it’s hard to face the day—and I don’t know what to pray—I’ll say your name. In Jesus’ name, amen. “There’s power in the name of Jesus.”STRENGTH IN THE WORD
