Daily Power #233

Come near to God and he will come near to you. (James 4:8)

I have a confession to make, one that shocked the women in our church: I don’t go crazy over babies. I’m not proud of this. I wish it were different, but I prefer to look at them from afar. If I have to look at someone’s baby, I’ve trained myself to smile and say, “Oh, what a baby!” But that’s all. I don’t want to hold babies, rock babies, or talk baby-talk to babies. They just aren’t that cute and interesting to me—and I’m including my own children in that assessment!

But the moment my babies sat up, rolled a ball toward me, or said, “Da-da!” I went crazy, because I love toddlers. They’re learning so much so fast, doing the Frankenstein walk as they bump into things, and mimicking every sound they hear. So around toddlers, I’m the biggest bowl of Jell-O you’ve ever seen.

Knowing how I melt so easily when I see my kids lift their hands toward me to be picked up, I can just imagine the love of our heavenly Father. There’s no loving father on earth who would reject the outstretched hands of his child, and our Abba Father loves when we lift our hands toward him. When our hands move toward God, I believe his heart moves toward us. He loves when we lift up our hands to worship him.

God loves to hold us close when we move closer to him.
