Daily Power #239

But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. For you bless the righteous, O LORD; you cover him with favor as with a shield. (Ps. 5:11–12 ESV)

When my kids were small, I always loved how they celebrated my birthday. They would get so excited and couldn’t wait for me to open their presents, which was often something they had made. I remember when my daughter Joy was about ten, she had worked so hard—probably for days—to make the perfect gift for me, something she knew I would just love. She was like, “Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Look what I got to make for you!” She seemed absolutely overjoyed that she got to give me something.

What she and my other kids didn’t realize was that my joy was in seeing their joy! Sure, I loved their macaroni pictures and string art, their finger-paintings and tie holders. But what I loved more was seeing them want to honor, celebrate, and love on me.

I suspect God must feel this way when we open our hearts in worship to him. When we fully realize all he’s done for us and our heart overflows with gratitude, we are so blessed! There’s nothing we can give him to show how we feel except our hearts. What a blessing that we get to be known by the God of the Universe and love him back.

Today remember what a privilege it is to love and serve your heavenly Father.

Lord, I give you all my praise and worship! Your deeds are wonderful and mighty. Your lovingkindness has no limits. Thank you for being such an awesome God and for saving me from my sin.
