Daily Power #242

Great peace have they who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble. (Ps. 119:165)

When I’m anxious and upset, my body shows it. Whether I’m running away from bobcats hiding beside our driveway after dark or about to let loose on the guy who took my parking spot at the mall, I feel the adrenaline kick in and my body prepare for “flight or fight.”

If you’ve ever been in a car accident, fight at school, or confrontation with the office bully, then you know what I’m talking about. Anytime you’re facing a perceived threat or imminent risk of danger, then you can literally lose your balance. Your body feels disoriented as you react and make split-second decisions about what to do in the heat of the moment.

While your body may still react this way, you can know the peace of the Lord even amidst your scariest situations. When you trust in God’s sovereignty, you experience the peace that passes understanding. Your security is in God. You don’t have to get worried, upset, and stressed figuring out how to fight your way into—or run away from—your future.

If you follow Jesus and obey God’s commands, then your feet will remain steadfast and sure. You won’t stumble and fall victim to the weight of worries and anxieties that try to crush us. Your future is certain. Today don’t let anyone rob you of the peace of the Lord.

With you as my rock-solid foundation, Lord, I know I have nothing to fear. Your peace gives me comfort, security, and strength. Nothing can steal my joy today.
