Daily Power #267

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. (Eccl. 3:1)

After taking my neighbor’s advice, I’ve been working to perfect these yard principles for years. Finally, we have made some significant progress. Though we haven’t won an award, we are quite proud of our yard. God gets most of the credit, but we have worked with it to do our part to make it beautiful.

If you drove up our long driveway, you would likely admire it. That is until you get to the part right outside our front door. Since we live in the woods, we don’t have a back yard. You could say we have a back forest, but not a yard. The only usable place to play soccer is right in the front. So we put up two small goals and let the kids go at it. The only problem is—there is a huge dead spot.

For so long, the dead spot bothered me. Then one day I realized I would soon miss it. I recognized that when the mini soccer field finally “healed,” it would signal our kids being out of the house. And then I would miss these days when they were home, laughing and playing in the yard.

Is there something you’re complaining about today that you will soon miss in the future? Try to focus on what matters most and see the good in everything. It’s amazing how a different attitude can help you move from not liking something to loving it.
