Daily Power #350

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

I will never forget the day I found out the truth about Santa Claus. Even though I had been a staunch defender of the big, generous, bearded man in red, I finally discovered the truth. The stack of would-be Santa presents was carefully hidden in the back of the garage—but unfortunately, not carefully enough.

Devastated, dazed, and distressed, I demanded my mom tell me the truth. And so she did. My footing felt unstable. The world seemed to spin faster. And I suddenly felt sick to my stomach. Really sick.

If Santa wasn’t real, what else wasn’t real? Suddenly the Tooth Fairy was in question. And of course there was the Easter Bunny. And then there was God. Suddenly my childhood faith seemed more unsure.

What is true?

Thankfully over time, I’ve learned that truth is not just an idea. Truth is a person. Jesus is the truth. It amazes me to know that James, the brother of Jesus, believed that Jesus was truth. What would your brother have to do to convince you he is the Son of God?

And Peter, who repeatedly denied Christ, believed that Jesus was truth. So much so that he died for his belief in Christ. Ten of the twelve disciples died for truth. (Judas hanged himself, and John died in exile after surviving being dipped in boiling oil.)

If you occasionally experience doubts, as many of us do, remember the truth. Jesus is truth. And the truth will set you free.

Power Lift

Jesus, I’m so grateful you were willing to come to earth as a baby and live as a man. But I’m also thankful you are God’s Son and the absolute truth.
